Why is there a Baycol recall?

Baycol was voluntarily recalled from the market due to an extremely high occurrence of Rhabdomyolysis associated with its usage.

What is Rhabdomyolysis?

Rhabdomyolisis occurs when the muscle cells are damaged and their contents break down and enter the bloodstream. In rare instances, this can result in kidney damage and other organ damage which may be fatal.

What are the symptoms associated with Rhabdomyolysis?

Patients often report muscle aches involving their calves, back or entire body. Sometimes this is accompanied by fever, nausea, vomiting, weakness and dark urine.

What should I do if I suspect that I have Rhabdomyolisis?

Contact your doctor immediately to determine the best treatment method. You may also want to contact an attorney to ensure your rights are properly protected and that your treatment bills are taken care of.

Are there available alternative to Baycol?

Yes. There are five (5) other drugs in the same class (statins) available in the U.S. market. They are atorvastatin (Lipitor), fluvastatin (Lescol), lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), and simvastatin (Zocor). There are also other drugs approved for lowering cholesterol that are not statin drugs. You should consult you physician to determine which treatment is right for you.

Are the other statins dangerous?

All statins have been associated with rare reports of rhabdomyolysis. However, cases in association with Baycol usage have been reported more frequently than other statins.

Do I need a lawyer?

If you have taken Baycol and have been diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis you should contact a lawyer immediately. You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries.
